1. I think there are many ways that you can find out information about your students even if you haven't met them. You can always talk to other teachers to see if they had any of your students in the following years or if they have any siblings in the same school.
2. As a teacher, you have to be prepared to have a culturally diverse class. Each student grows up in a different type of household. Some things like eye contact or speaking your opinion are considered rude in some cultures. If their behavior is different than your used to, don't assume they are being rude. When assigning homework that involves a computer, make sure you leave them time to work at school because not all students have the technology at home.
